Kiwi star releases single 'My Fire' encouraging strength during global crisis
Updated: Sep 21, 2020
New Zealand international rising-star, Jody Direen drops new single and video "My Fire" amidst the Covid-19 turmoil stating it's 'a deeply empowering song with a global message during this surreal time'. Direen wrote "My Fire" over a two-year period pulling together and drawing inspiration from various personal, national and global hardships. The song has a fierce heart, driving the transformation of internal pain into confidence and courage, no matter the circumstance. For the time being, the lyric "you" is Covid-19. The Vodafone NZMA Tui Award winner believes music has the power to change an emotional state, and has an important role in times like now. "It can't be good for our health to allow fearful feelings to overwhelm us". Direen hopes 'My Fire' will serve as 'musical medicine', replacing possible (and understandable) feelings of anxiety and stress, related to the current global crisis with courage, resilience and hope. For the past 4 years after releasing her first album “Breaks Out” as part of her signing with Australian record label ABC Music; Jody Direen has been in a whirlwind, clocking up miles on the ground and across the skies touring in both New Zealand and Australia. Not only has Jody Direen racked up mileage, she has also secured accolades and acclaim for her music and strong vocals. Experiencing success early on the radio airplay and single charts for her hits : “Loud”, “Tattoo”, “Together”, “Dirt Rich”, “Gimme the Beat” and most recently “All Nighter” (the first single to be released off her forthcoming album). "My Fire" is the second single to be released off Direen's up-coming and fourth studio album - 'Smokin' Ashes', due out July 3 2020 and produced by Stuart Stuart.
